ADAM'S BLUES
The Lord said to Adam listen to me boy
I planted me a garden and I drew you from the soil
gave you a wife gave you everything you need
now listen when i tell you don't go messing with that tree
kid you know I love you and I always tell the truth
and when you eat from that tree it'll be the death of you,
oh man
The serpent said to Eve, Miss Eve you're looking fine
come sit up here beside me and maybe we could dine
and Eve she said no no sir I'd like to but you see
the Lord says when I eat it it'll be the death of me
the serpent he just laughed and said now Eve that's odd
cuz i know that when you eat it it'll make you just like god
oh man
Eve took a look around she looked up in the tree,
she saw that shiny apple and it was good to eat
she looked around again she took one in her hand
she took a big old bite and then she gave one to her man
Adam smiled at her and then he had him some
cuz Eve she was foolish and Adam he was dumb
oh man
The Lord he came a-calling and Adam went and hid
but the Lord of course he found him and said now tell me what you did
Adam said it was the woman she told me what to do,
the Lord just shook his head and said it's now the death of you
Kid you made your bed yeah you made your choice
and you don't know what it cost when you don't listen to my voice,
oh man
The moral of this story is a lesson you can take:
listen to what God says and don't go messing with no snakes
AROUND THE WORLD
I was born down south where the big river flows
wide and muddy to the Gulf of Mexico
where the moss hangs long on the cypress trees
and the honeysuckle lingers on the sweet summer breeze
I've seen the alligator lurking in the August night
looking like a log in the pale moonlight
got them big white teeth and those yellow eyes
drag you down neath the water so you never rise
been around the world, around the world
been around the world but I always come back to you
I lived out west where the hot sun shines
it'll burn your back it'll blind your eyes
there's cactus and sand everywhere you look
dragging life from a desert takes a mighty big hook
but you can eat the carnitas when the day is done
con los amigos y hermanos de Michoacán
I’ve been around the world but I always come back to you
I grabbed this life with both my hands
and thought my dreams would all come true
Get a little older and you start to understand
Man can only do what he can do
I’ve been around the world from the west to the east
seen the Eiffel Tower and the Cantonese
heard people pray in a hundred tongues
got kissed by the Lord in the Amazon
now I live up north with the ice and snow
play my guitar where the cold wind blows
got a house and a car and a sweet little wife
and every day i focus on my God who is life
I’ve been around the world but I always come back to you
CHRISTMAS IN SONORA
Well you know about Christmas all snowy and white
and little blonde angels singing Silent Night
About Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman
and Santa eating cookies dressed in red, man
But when it’s Christmas in Sonora
we eat tamales and enchiladas
The luminarias light the way
to a Sonoran Christmas day
You know about Christmas with pine trees and such
but prickly pear cactus you don’t think of that much
But in Nogales and Agua Prieta
we think we do Christmas mas better
When it’s Christmas in Sonora
we eat eat rellenos and empenadas
The luminarias light the way
to a Sonoran Christmas day
It’s not what you eat, it’s not where you’re from,
Christmas is the birthday of God’s only Son
We sing “Glory to God in the highest
y amor a la family de Dios”
When it’s Christmas in Sonora
we sing coritos and worship Cristo
The luminarias light the way
to a Sonoran Christmas day
Now it’s Christmas in Sonora
Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad
The luminarias light the way
to a Sonoran Christmas day
GRACE
There's a choir singing from a church on the hill
through the open window the music spills
over the streets and alleys the farms and the fields:
Grace, grace amazing grace
Now the ladies are swaying as the drummer counts time
the basses are laughing but it aint no crime
cause when the joy of the spirit captures your mind
he brings grace grace amazing grace
Do you hear the sound of freedom?
Do you feel the rush of joy?
Are you walking in the spirit?
Do you know the Savior, boy?
Flowing like water washing us clean
kids and their fathers enter the stream
mothers and children join in the scene:
Grace grace amazing grace…
Now the day is fading light's turning gold
wind is rising it's getting cold,
but trusting in Jesus we never grow old
he brings grace grace amazing grace
Do you hear the sound of freedom?
BLOW
Sometimes I'm sick of this town
sometimes I'm sick of me
sometimes I let my mind slip to how it's gonna be
when all the debts are paid in full
and all the bets called in
when everything is washed when we begin again
Do you hear that whistle blowing
somewhere right close by
check the referee he says it's time to choose up sides
so beauties bring your beasties
bring your hiltons and your whores
everybody's got to play no matter they don't know the score
Storm's gonna come and blow this town away
fire's gonna burn burn burn
see the lightning flash from the east to the west
and you hear that trumpet blow blow blow on judgment day
I wouldn't be the mocker
the wicked nor the proud
I’m hoping I can run with a slightly better crowd
I was talking to my sister
she said you need to get fixed up
I can't say that I disagree but it's going to take some blood
Listen to me honey
I didn't mean to be unkind
I was asking about the weather and you said you didn't have the time
that's when I started laughing
because every sailor knows
when you see that red sky warning it's time to pack your things and go
Storm's gonna come…
You there with the fiddle
won't you play another jig?
the smoke alarm's gone crazy but your tunes will cover it
the guests keep crying, barkeep!
won't you set us up once more?
but if it's alright I'll get my hat and slide on out the door
Storm's gonna come…
Blow like Miles blow like Dizzy
blow like Maynard blow like Louie
like John Coltrane like Ella Fitzgerald
like Harry James like Wynton Marsalis
Blow, blow, blow away
SONG FOR ALL NATIONS
Every nation every land
every tribe every tongue
the rich and the poor
the old and the young
all of the nations will gather to worship the Lord
From south and from north
from west and from east
the great and the small
the most and the least
all of the people will gather to sing your praise
In Uganda Rwanda China Botswana
Australia Jamaica Samoa Guyana
Pakistan Thailand Iran Afghanistan
England and Ireland and Iceland and Greenland
Monico Mexico Cuba the Congo:
one day everything will worship you
For the beauty of the earth
and the glory of the skies
blessings for today
and heaven when we die
now and always we sing your praise
